One of the most popular places to visit when traveling from Dubrovnik to Split is the stunning town of Ston. Whether it be a stop for lunch, exploring this historic town or hiking its famous wall fortifications, Ston is an ideal stop when traveling between Dubrovnik and Split.
Dubrovnik to Split Day Trip description
Your day begins with our friendly driver picking you up from your hotel/accommodation and you will be on your way! From Dubrovnik, the drive to Ston will take about 1 hour. From Ston to Split the drive is about 2hrs and 20mins. Both drives have some spectacular scenery that takes you through the Dalmatian hinterland and then along the stunning Dalmatian Coast. We always make time for a photo stop so that you can capture the amazing views.
Once we arrive in Ston you have a few choices. They are:
Take a walk on the longest wall fortification in Europe (5km). Constructed in the 14th & 15th centuries, this wall was built by the Dubrovnik Republic to protect their valuable salt! Whilst 5km is a little too long the best walk is from Ston to Mali Ston where at the peak you get sweeping views of the bay of Mali Ston and Mainland Croatia.
Check out the salt pans. They have been harvesting salt from these pans for centuries and they still use the traditional methods of production.
Try some oyster. Ston is famous for the production of oysters and mussels. The oysters are superb and are European flat oysters that are delicate, silky and delicious.
Lastly, and our favourite, take some time for lunch by the sea in Mali Ston. There are a handful of excellent restaurants to choose from that all specialise in local seafood and recipes.
Once our time is up in Ston we continue our journey to Split or Dubrovnik.
